Achieving The ‘No Makeup’ Makeup Look

Isn't it strange to want to wear makeup that looks like you're not wearing any makeup at all? Besides the existential beauty crisis, the model is left without makeup and unemployed. This look is the exact opposite of the typical Instagram beauty we often see — thick eyebrows, full coverage foundation, winged mascara, you know what I'm talking about. "No make-up" is essentially minimalist make-up that focuses more on application steps than the number of products.

Skin first

This look is all about natural, glowing skin. The easiest way to achieve it? For naturally glowing skin. Even if we don't all have the youthful glow of Amal Clooney or Jennifer Aniston, we can do it! Before going out without makeup, do a little skin prep. If you use a moisturizing face mask before applying your makeup, your skin will already be supple and hydrated.

Lightweight coating

Avoid heavy, covering foundations for this look. Tinted moisturizers, BB and CC creams, and tints provide extra hydration and allow freckles, redness, and blemishes to show through. LA 'Pearl recommends liquid creams at this stage, as they retain the skin's glow and are easy to spread and apply. If you want thicker coverage that doesn't feel cakey, one of her favorites is Beyond Belief Foundation by 10. Apply your liquid foundation or complexion with a powder brush for more coverage, or use a sponge to protect and blend—LA 'Pearl has the perfect way to apply foundation.

Skip the foundation.

For a quick and easy no-makeup makeup look, it's recommended that you don't use foundation. Choose only a light or barely-there foundation. Give your complexion a natural look and take advantage of your skin's texture.

Properly concealed

The trick to flawless make-up is to use concealer to strategically hide imperfections and brighten your complexion. First, use the Maybelline Foundation Finder to find the exact shade of concealer you need. Use a small, flat brush to apply it to blemishes and dark spots. Then apply a small amount of concealer under the eyes and blend with your fingers for a natural effect. Lightly apply powder to the T-zone and under the eyes to set everything.

Use a lightweight concealer to cover imperfections.

If you're not used to leaving blemishes or dark circles uncovered, use a lightweight moisturizing concealer. Apply the mask with your fingers—the warmth of your skin will melt the product.

Color your cheeks.

Redden your skin naturally by applying a minimal amount of blush to your cheeks. If you want sun-kissed skin without makeup, apply a light layer of blush in warm tones on your nose.

Built-in cream

Creams let everything melt and absorb, and generally look more natural than powders. After applying foundation and concealer, apply bronzer with a damp sponge. If you're worried about it lasting all day, apply a light bronzer or maintain the glow with a setting spray. La'Perle applies bronzer to the cheekbones and near the nose, and even on the eyelids, to create dimension and accentuate the look a bit without overdoing it.
